Differences Between North and South
The North and South were different in many ways. The major difference was slavery. The North didn't want slavery because they didn't need it as much as the South did. They believed the slaves had rights. While, the South believed that slavery was necessary. They needed the slaves to make more money and to work in the fields. The South wasn't as nice to the slaves though. They would beat them, make them work in harsh weather, and they only could eat a little. Besides slavery the climate was different. In the South it was always hot and rained very little. In the North it snowed and when the snow melted the soil would become damp. It wasn't very good soil for farming. Also, the North had better transportation. They had more railroads to ship supplies and re-enforcements faster. The South was still relying on ships to send things. One reason the war lasted so long, was because the South had better generals. One was the greatest was named Robert E. Lee.
