1860 Election:
In the 1860 presidential election the democrats had three nominees and the Union only one. The three nominees had caused the vote to split in the South. Lincoln was not even on the ballot for the South. Soon President Lincoln was elected 16th president with only 40% of the vote.
Ft. Sumter:
On April 12, 1861 Confederate soldiers bombarded Ft. Sumter for 33 hours. Soon the fort fell and the confederates had taken control of it. This was the start of the Civil War.
