Battles in Texas and the U.S.
Texas: Galveston Island had one of the largest battles fought in Texas. Sabine Pass was a war to try to divide Texas in half. Palmito Ranch was the last battle of the war. This battle was fought when the Civil War was over.
U.S.: July 1st - 3rd: Gettysburg was one of the largest and bloodiest battles fought. Robert E. Lee had to fight against Ulysses S. Grant to get through and try to take Washington D.C. The battle lasted 3 days with the Union winning.
May 18th - July 4th: Vicksburg was a city that led to the Mississippi River. If you took control of the city, you took control of the river. the Union took siege on the city and won. It split the Confederacy in half.
November - December 1864: Sherman's March came after the burning of Atlanta to the ground. Sherman had marched to the South and destroyed everything; farms, homes, plantations, train tracks, and killed any southerner who got in his way. He said, "War is Hell, you give them Hell and they'll surrender."
