There were three main causes of the war; states rights, slavery, and tariffs. The North believed that states should follow federal laws. The South believed that states should make their own rules. Slavery was a big cause of he war. The North believed that slavery was wrong. The South supported slaves, so that they could farm and make more money. North supported higher tariffs and the South supported foreign trade.

Winfield Scott had three objectives to winning. the first step was The Anaconda Plan. this was to block the South from importing things in or out of the South. His second step to winning was to take control of the Mississippi River. If you take control of the river, you take control of the South's supply line. The last step was to take the Confederacy's capital, Richmond Virginia.
